Il Carbonaione 2016 is the flagship wine of Podere Poggio Scalette, produced in the Alta Valle della Greve IGT region of Tuscany. This exceptional Super Tuscan is made from 100% Sangiovese grapes sourced from vineyards located at an altitude of 450-500 meters, in soils rich in galestro (clayey schist).

High-Altitude Vineyards and Unique Terroir

Podere Poggio Scalette's vineyards are planted on the steep slopes of the Chianti hills, at a high altitude that provides significant diurnal temperature variation. This condition allows for slow and balanced grape maturation, resulting in wines of great concentration, elegance, and aromatic complexity. The galestro soils impart minerality and structure to the wine.

Artisanal Winemaking

Il Carbonaione is produced using artisanal methods and meticulous attention to detail. The grapes are carefully hand-selected, followed by traditional winemaking with extended maceration. The wine ages in French oak barrels for approximately 18-24 months, followed by further refinement in the bottle.

Complex Sensory Profile

It presents intense and complex aromas of ripe black cherries, plums, oriental spices, floral notes of violet, mineral hints of graphite, and nuances of tobacco and leather. On the palate, it is full-bodied and structured, with firm yet elegant tannins, excellent vibrant acidity, and an extraordinarily long and persistent finish.
