Borgogno Barolo Riserva Red 1982 - Historic Edition

The Barolo Riserva 1982 from the prestigious Borgogno house is a true oenological gem and collector's item. Over 40 years old, this Italian DOCG red wine represents a living testament to the history of Piedmont and the excellence of traditional winemaking. Produced in one of the great vintages of the 20th century, this Riserva comes from the house's three most important crus: Cannubi, Liste, and Fossati.

The 1982 Vintage

1982 was an exceptional vintage in Piedmont, characterized by ideal climatic conditions that allowed for perfect ripening of the Nebbiolo grapes. This year is considered one of Barolo's great classics, producing wines of monumental structure and extraordinary aging potential.

Traditional Winemaking

Spontaneous fermentation in cement vats at low temperatures, followed by a prolonged submerged cap maceration which, in some cases, reached 50 days. The wine aged for six years in large Slovenian oak barrels, followed by a six-month bottle aging before being released to the market.

The Three Legendary Crus

Cannubi: The most prestigious cru of Barolo, known for its elegance and finesse.
Liste: Offers structure and power to the blend.
Fossati: Contributes floral and fruity notes.

Wine Characteristics

Visual: Evolved garnet red with amber and brick reflections, a testament to over four decades of noble aging.

Aroma: Extraordinarily complex and evolved bouquet, with tertiary notes of tobacco, leather, truffles, sweet spices, tar, dried roses, dried fruits, balsamic, and ethereal touches.

Palate: On the palate, it reveals a structure that is still present but perfectly integrated. Completely silky tannins, vibrant acidity that keeps the wine alive, and an extraordinarily long finish with endless layers of evolved flavors.

Storage and Serving

This historic wine should be handled with extreme care. It is recommended to:

  • Store horizontally, in a cool and dark place
  • Serving temperature: 18-20°C
  • Carefully decant 3-4 hours before serving
  • Preferably consume on special occasions
