About Traditional LBV:
Late Bottled Vintage (LBV) is a single-vintage Port Wine, aged for 4 to 6 years in wood before bottling. Van Zellers & Co.'s traditional unfiltered version represents the most authentic form of this style, with greater complexity and aging potential.
Winemaking Process:
Made from traditional and indigenous red grapes, hand-picked in different sub-regions of the Douro. The grapes are foot-trodden in old granite lagares and ferment in the same lagares for 2 to 5 days. When the must reaches the desired residual sugar level, grape spirit is added to interrupt fermentation. After racking and pressing, the newly produced Port is then aged for 36 to 48 months in old wooden barrels with capacities between 600 and 10,000 litres. Bottled without any fining or filtration.
Tasting Notes:
Very deep ruby colour. Floral aromas, dark cherries, cassis, raspberries, and cedar spices. Velvety tannins, elegant and smooth, with great balance and finesse. Very long and fruity finish.
