Borgogno Barolo Riserva Red 2017
The Barolo Riserva 2017 from the prestigious Borgogno house represents the pinnacle of production from this historic Piedmontese winery. This DOCG Italian red wine is only produced in the best vintages, when climatic conditions allow for the selection of the finest grapes from the house's three most important crus: Cannubi, Liste, and Fossati.
Exceptional Vinification
Spontaneous fermentation occurs in cement vats at low temperatures, followed by prolonged submerged cap maceration, which can last up to 50 days in some cases. The wine ages for six years in large Slovenian oak barrels, followed by another six months of bottle aging before being released onto the market. This prolonged aging process imparts extraordinary complexity and elegance to the wine.
The Three Legendary Crus
Cannubi: Barolo's most prestigious cru, known for its elegance and finesse.
Liste: Offers structure and power to the blend.
Fossati: Contributes explosive floral and fruity notes.
Wine Characteristics
Visual: Deep garnet ruby with orange reflections, a sign of noble maturity and aging.
Aroma: An extremely complex and evolved bouquet, with notes of dried roses, violets, stewed red fruits, sweet spices, tar, tobacco, leather, truffles, and balsamic hints.
Palate: On the palate, it reveals a monumental yet perfectly balanced structure. Silky and refined tannins, vibrant integrated acidity, a full body, and an extraordinarily long and persistent finish with layers of flavors that progressively reveal themselves.
