In November 1998, the Symington family proposed to Bruno Prats that he participate in a new project, which consisted of producing a great unfortified wine in the Douro. This came to fruition in 1999, with the creation of PRATS & SYMINGTON Limitada as an equal partnership between the two families. Some experimental vinifications in that first year allowed them to define and choose the best plots and the most suitable grape varieties for the project. CHRYSEIA 2000 was the first vintage to be commercialised.

CHRYSEIA was one of the pioneers of the now widely recognised resurgence of unfortified DOURO DOC wines. However, this wine, whose name means “golden” in classical Greek, just like the name of the river in Portuguese, remains faithful to its very own style. Elegance and balance predominate, having depth without being heavy and presenting itself full-bodied without being aggressive.

CHRYSEIA symbolises the meeting of the noble Portuguese tradition with the no less rich Bordeaux tradition, in the sense of a new modernity.
